Growing Roots
18 March 2020
At Candid Arts Trust, London.
This show at Candid Arts Trust was one of my most raw and intimate performances of story-telling and life drawing theatre.
I dipped into my teenage mind and returned to Torrens Street, London in the 1990s, where the urban walls witnessed an extraordinary coming of age.
From my early life yearning for a different state of being, to an awakening in underground clubs and alternative culture… from beginning my adult life in Soho peepshows and an Old Street dungeon, to becoming a leading model in the London life drawing scene… this performance brought together many elements of my formative years.
It took place just a few days before the first UK lockdown of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, so I was especially grateful that it was able to go ahead. It absolutely felt right, and gave me a feeling of completion that left me more ready to face a brave new world in the months ahead.
Seeing and sharing something precious with a few friends was soulful.
