Performance #19

Growing Roots

15 January 2020

At The Cavendish Arms, Stockwell, London for LifeArt Stockwell Drink and Draw.

This was the first performance of my new show, ‘Growing Roots’. It’s an autobiographical piece about my youth and ancestry, hosted by LifeArt Stockwell at The Cavendish Arms, Stockwell, London.

Many of my performances over the years have evolved as life drawing pieces. Being able to try them in progress, while I am modelling, is incredibly valuable. The truly creative process of writing, learning lines and matching music with different scenes is one of the things I enjoy most in life. Being invited to share more of my creativity and personal initiative, fills me with joy.

The performance is about finding different parts of me and putting them together. About ancestral lines, life lines and circles of growth; the gnarly bits deep down, straggly threads interweaving, the core trunk. I come from many places, have grown in a multitude of directions, forms; and here I am – a whole tree.
