This took place at Candid Arts Trust on Sunday 16 February, and Telegraph Hill Festival on Thursday 3 April. The performance lasts 2 hours including an interval. Most of the audiences were drawing.
The show follows the parallel stories of a young woman coming of age in Victorian London, and her house plant. Told with monologue and movement, both emotive, unexpected and exuberant. The woman is based on an ancestor of mine as well as my imagination and research. She trains as a doctor and becomes friends with the artist Gwen John. The bromelia plant offers a quirky background layer with some insightful comment.
Photos and drawings of the show at Candid on my Instagram also here. Unfortunately I wasn’t in a mood for taking photos at the other show, but this is one drawing I received.
